In this live performance workshop, the selected bands short listed for the Indie100 program will showcase their original music for an audience comprising industry professionals, festival programmers and music specialists at XChange. The workshop will give these emerging artists the chance to receive valuable inputs and feedback on performance, musicality, brand image, stage presence and key factors that can make an artist stand out in the industry.

  • Kristina Kelman

    Kristina Kelman Queensland University of Technology / Australia

    Dr Kristina Kelman is an academic, teacher, community music facilitator and jazz musician. Her research interests include the education of the aspiring musician. In 2014 she completed her PhD, From music student to industry professional: An entrepreneurial learning design, producing an experiential music curriculum model for student-run enterprise. Kristina’s work also takes place in community music settings, most recently she collaborated with Australian ARIA award winner, David Bridie and First Languages Australia on a language project through original song, Yamani: Voices of an Ancient Land.
    Since 2015, Kristina has coordinated an intensive recording program and music education project in Chennai, India, producing an album of original music by emerging independent artists each year, distributed and promoted internationally.
    Kristina is a Brisbane based jazz singer who has 20 years experience both nationally and internationally. She has performed with artists such as Don Burrows, and Tommy Tycho and the Qld Symphony Orchestra. She has supported Tina Arena, James Morrison, Grace Knight, Marcia Hines, Vince Jones and Glen Shorrock. Most recently Kristina was commissioned by Rhondalay Music (USA) to release a Christmas Album – One Bright Star, in tribute to the late Frank Pooler (Producer – The Carpenters).
    Kristina currently lectures at the Queensland University of Technology with a focus on music industry.

 
  • Dan Pratt

    Dan Pratt Queensland University of Technology / Australia

    Dan Pratt is an Australian producer and PhD student. He has a reputation for recording and mixing psychedelic art rock and has toured internationally with his band Drawn From Bees, playing in such iconic venues as the Whisky a Gogo in Los Angeles and the Bowery Ballroom in New York as well as London, Hong Kong, and Canada. Dan also works as a production instructor and a researcher at the Queensland University of Technology and runs modern rock and electronica music programs for aspiring artists in high schools.

    As an educator, Daniel has set up a youth rock band platform for high school students to write, record, and release their music. He also runs youth based songwriting competitions with award-winning songwriters from the broader Australian community. He is passionate about finding the art in the music and transforming musicians into empowered dramatic performers who put on amazing shows. In his limited spare time, Dan is an avid DIY recording enthusiast, addicted to building rare and unusual recording equipment.
